Depew & Owen Builders Inc. was formed in 1962 in Centralia by William E “Bill” Owen and Ralph Depew Jr. The two started working out of Bill’s home and mainly built residential homes, additions, remodels and repairs along with some commercial work.
In 1972 the company was incorporated and began operating at 511 South Oak Street in Centralia. While the company was still performing residential work, it also became more involved in commercial and industrial construction. During this time the company began performing more concrete, industrial building and equipment installation work in Centralia’s Industrial facilities.
In 1980 Ralph Depew left Depew and Owen Builders and the company continued to operate and began doing road and bridge construction among other things. During this time frame the company became an approved IDOT and CDB Contractor and also took on the Butler Pre-Engineered Metal Building line as a Butler Builder.
The company has taken on and performed the design build type of construction performing the design, concrete and metal building sales and erection throughout the Centralia and surrounding communities over the past 35 years. In 1982 Bill’s son Alan Owen began working as a yard helper and carpenter. In late 1988 Alan began working with his father as an estimator and soon after a project manager.
In 1992 Bill Owen retired as an officer of the company and Richard "Dick" Falbe became the new company president along with Alan as vice president. Sadly in 1994 William E. Owen passed after a long battle with cancer. The company continued on with the same professional services and in December of 2002 Dick Falbe left the company with over 30 years of service.
In 2003 the company structure changed again naming Alan Owen as president along with Ronald Donoho Jr. (grandson of Bill) as vice president after working out in the field as superintendent/carpenter foreman for the company since 1983.
In January 2016 Depew and Owen Builders moved from its 6,000 sq' facility at 511 S. Oak to its current newly renovated 30,000 sq' 301 North Oak facility. The move helped with its growing operations and much needed additional space to help better serve its customers.
In January 2018 Ronnie Donoho became sole owner and president of the company following the retirement of Alan. Ronnie has over 35 years experience and his son Derek Donoho (great grandson of Bill) joined him as vice president with over 13 years experience making Depew and Owen a 4th generation family owned business.
The company has on the average 15-30 employees including carpenters, laborers, cement finishers and operators who take pride in their craftsmanship. Over the past 56 years the company has been involved with almost every type of construction and will pursue a project as small as installing a door knob to building a several hundred thousand square foot facility. The company now has also changed its line of Pre-Engineered metal buildings from Butler to American Building Systems.
The company remains diversified working on projects as unique as the construction of the Centralia Carillon Tower to road and bridges, railroad overpasses, bank facilities, medical facilities, industrial and institutional work and yet we still make house calls.
